Explore the Wonders of the World! (August 2010)

We will once again be joining English Lutheran and Zion Lutheran for Vacation Bible School.  Come and explore the wonders of the world at Zion Lutheran, 557 Perry Highway, Harmony, PA , on August 2nd to Ausgust 6 from 9:00 till noon.  Registration forms will be in the June newsletter or contact the church office at 724-452-8832 for more information.

Let’s get down to the facts!

At St. Paul, we include children from ages 3-10, allowing for three separate classes. The children will keep busy the entire week, filled with a wacky hat contest, exciting opening demonstrations, and a pool party! Yes, a pool party! On Thursday evening we have a potluck dinner, after which the children perform the songs they learned for the week and then we all head over to the Zelienople pool for a fun night of swimming!

I’ve already hinted about the events each night, but here’s the breakdown. It starts with an opening, which includes the collection and a cool experiment, followed by the lesson of the day in the classroom. Next, a rotation between music, crafts, and games. The evening concludes with snack time and a reflection on the Bible verse for that particular day.

Every night of VBS we take a collection, which is sent to our Missionary child, Nevis. The kids always get excited to put their collected coins into the fishbowl every night. It’s also a good way to let the children know that the money is

going to someone who really needs it.

The children not only come home with a Bible verse they learn every night, but a CD of the music they sing throughout the week and a T-Shirt with the theme for VBS, which they wear on the final night for their performance.

We pride ourselves on having several volunteers for this program. If it wasn’t for all the people donating their time, supplies, and effort, VBS would not be a success. We are always looking for new faces to help out with the fun week in whatever capacity you wish. Whether it’s crafts, snacks, or teaching, we have a place for you!

Although it requires a lot of time, patience, and people working together, it is well worth it in the end and the children always have a good time. Most importantly, they learn about God and His amazing acts in several different aspects.
